Visa Checkout Global Market Expansion

The Visa Checkout Global Market Expansion was a product initiative in 2016 to develop guidelines for localizing and expanding the Visa Checkout service for online merchants outside the United States.

For this assignment, I was responsible for creating address format guidelines for the United Kingdom, Ireland, and India. I also provided support in research and guideline development for France, Spain, Poland, and Brazil.

My role:

UX/UI Designer

Team:

• 3 Designers
• 2 Product Managers

Problem Statement

Visa had seen some success with Visa Checkout in the United States and now wanted to launch the product on a global scale. However, due to the lack of budget at the time, Visa had to initiate this global market expansion with limited resources.

To help achieve this goal, my team and I created a global address format template that could easily be reformatted for various countries and regions. This endeavor aided in keeping the development cost to a minimum and streamlining production for the launch.

Goals

- Developing a structure of the address formats for my assigned countries and those I supported for guidelines

- Buidling out standard manuals for these address formats on Visa Checkout interfaces

Challenges

- Standardizing each country's local address rules within a global address framework

- Modernizing these address formats while restricted by the Visa Checkout legacy code

Key Findings

- The address format between countries have strong basic simliarities that fit well within a global framework, namely the arrangment of city, street address, and country

- Specifying an exact location is where it becomes more difficult to standardize the format, where the usage of zipcodes, county, and reference points (address line 2) varies country to country

Next Steps

1) Collaborating with my team to develop a basic global address framework based on the our findings

2) Developing a formatting system for each of my countries' unqiue usage of zipcode, county, and reference point that works with the global address framework

3) Converting the global address framework for all Visa Checkout products
